Kisa Scholars are some of Africa’s brightest young women. They are among the very few women who pass the rigorous national examinations that allow them to continue on to the final two years of secondary school. But without a scholarship, most are not able to pay the high tuition fees for these last two years. They are selected for the Kisa Project because of their demonstrated leadership potential, their financial need, and their deep commitment to improving their communities. See All
Kisa Sponsors represent a wide variety of individuals, student groups, families, and service organizations. Through the Kisa website and discussion topics, they are given the tools they need to develop meaningful relationships with Kisa Scholars and with each other, to become leaders, and to continue to undertake service in their local and global communities. Local African leaders serve as mentors for Kisa Scholars over the course of 2 years. Through weekly trainings and individualized guidance, these leaders give Kisa Scholars the skills and knowledge they need to return home after graduation, undertake much-needed community projects, and mentor groups of other young girls. The Kisa Project is also made possible by Kisa leaders in the US, by teachers at our Tanzanian partner schools, and by inspiring Tanzanian women who agree to serve as role models to Kisa Scholars.
